The Onboard bracelet is the result of a meticulous design process led by our Wichard team. Our goal was to create a high-quality item, resistant to water and the passage of time (in every sense of the word!), one that would appeal to even the most demanding (and stylish) nautical enthusiasts.
The Wichard snap hook (regardless of size) has been an iconic piece in our catalog since its creation in the 1970s in large part due to its versatility, meeting a wide range of fastening needs. Forged from 316L stainless steel, it combines strength, corrosion resistance, and sleek design, a fusion of performance and elegance. These qualities have earned it an excellent reputation, both dockside and beyond.
On the bracelet, the snap hook weighs just 6g and measures 25mm. You’ll notice two subtle engravings: an “F” for Forged on one side, and a “W” for Wichard on the other, both discreet and refined.
The snap hooks undergo a polishing process known as brillantage (polishing technique), which removes any unsightly microscopic roughness. Placed in a tumbler with fine abrasive media and polishing paste, they emerge gleaming under the effect of vibrations.
Through this process, each snap hook is transformed into a true work of art.
And should the need ever arise, you can always detach it and return it to its original function!
Beyond the snap hook, you can express your individuality through the cord. We've chosen three distinctly different colors: navy blue for those with the soul of a sailor, soft pink for the gentle-hearted, and bold orange for the daring and adventurous. Each person can find a style - and a bracelet - that speaks to them. This way, you can celebrate your originality without compromising on quality, sustainability, or support for local production.
In fact, true to our commitment to Made in France and local sourcing, we partnered with a neighboring company to produce the bracelet cord. The weaving mill is located in Vertolaye, just 40 km from our own factory in Thiers, within the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (France).
The mill is Gauthier Fils, specialists in braids, cords, and laces, with a 150-year history of weaving excellence. Since its founding, the company has grown and now exports its products worldwide. Its current director, Jean-Damien Gauthier, represents the fifth generation of weavers.
100 years of forging, 150 years of weaving, what better match could there be?
Finally, thanks to two sliding knots on the cord, each bracelet can be adjusted to fit any wrist size.
